Servant of a Dark God audio?

I’ve recently received a number of emails from people asking if there is an audio version of Servant of a Dark God in the works and how can they get it. At this point, the audio rights have not yet sold. But that doesn’t mean those of you who would like audio have no recourse. The best thing to do is to make a request to Audible. It’s quite easy. Here’s what they say on their Contact Us page:

Content Requests: If you’re interested in a particular author or title, please let us know about it by sending an email to:content-requests@audible.com.

  • Smith’s grocery update

Okay, so SERVANT is still in Smith’s. Get them before they’re gone. If you were thinking of purchasing, now’s the time (and let’s hope the trial run is a success and they take it national in their stores). They have it cheaper than anywhere else in the Utah area. I think it’s $17 or $19. That’s a great price for a new hardback.  I know it’s in these stores.

  • Awful Intent Update: First Draft of Working Outline

On Saturday, with the arrival of a little gang of delicious insights, I finished the first working outline of Awful Intent. I can’t wait to dig into the writing. There will be one more draft of the working outline, and then I begin to write. I expect to be into the prologue by Wednesday.

Learn plot, character, scene, and more this Saturday, Oct 9!

All you Utah and mountain area writers & teachers, or those close enough to travel, I will be presenting and conducting workshops from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm this Saturday, Oct 9th as part of the Autumn Writers Conference sponsored by the American Fork Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

    The sessions I’ll conduct include:

    • Finding and Working With an Agent
    • How to Write a Story That Rocks: First Principles & Story Concept
    • Creating Characters that Rock
    • Plot
    • Writing Scenes: The Basic Units of a Novel

There are four other tracks. Find all the details, including cost and contact info, on the organizer’s site: CalebWarnock.blogspot.com. I’m totally stoked for this. I’ll be sharing what I think are the Pareto factors in each of these areas — things I wish I would have known when I started and would have shaved years off my journey to publication.

A number of other authors will be there including:

    • Annette Lyon (women’s fiction and a new cook book called Chocolate Never Faileth)
    • Josi Kilpack (mystery and suspense)
    • LeAnne Tolley (health and wellness)
    • Scott Livingston (poetry)
    • Caleb Warnock (self-sufficiency)
    • Loraine Scott (mystery)

  • LTUE presentation materials

On Friday night I’m going to be part of a panel on RULES FOR WRITING MAGIC, and then I’ll be presenting VIVID & CLEAR to a bunch of SFF romancers. On Saturday I’ll be following that up with a presentation on STORY TURNS. Every time I present folks ask for the presentations. So instead of making them wait until I get home, I’ll just post them now.

    Enjoy!

Some thoughts on inventing magic to go along with Friday’s panel.

And here is the fine car chase clip from the Story Turns presentation.

    Audio for my presentations

Folks. I have 2 mp3 files. One for Story Turns. One for Vivid & Clear. They are each about 48mb in size. But I don’t have the time to figure out how to make them available to you.

But I know someone out there does have the skillz to mash the slides with the audio in a short period of time and make it available. Maybe create something to upload to YouTube.

So if you have been waiting for this and would like to offer your services, I’d be happy to throw in a free copy of the ebook edition of Bad Penny and Servant for your efforts. It would in no way cover your time, but it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. And the project will also give you all sorts of glowy goodness inside knowing that you’ve served a whole bunch of writers.

That’s my offer: glowy goodness and ebooks.

  • SERVANT & Smith’s grocery, CURSE, Suspense series, My blog readers

    Smith’s Grocery Goodness

Just saw the paperback of SERVANT OF A DARK GOD in a Smith’s grocery in Kaysville, Utah. What this tells me is that SERVANT sold well enough when it was in the Smith’s stores in hardback for them to bring it back a second time. I’m guessing it’s in all the stores in the state. I want to thank all of you who bought it in hardback at the time from Smith’s.

Now, some of you may be wondering–why is Brown getting so excited about his book being in a grocery store? Here’s why.

Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places in the world. But there are only 10 stores in all of Utah. There are 50 Smith’s stores in Utah. There are probably 30-40 Fresh Markets in the same area.  There are 10 Maceys. When a book gets picked up by a grocery store, that ususally means it’s going to sell a LOT more copies. Why? Because more people can see that the thing exists. Furthermore, those displays put the cover face out. A huge draw for buyers that like to browse. So this is great news. And SERVANT might even be in some stores outside of Utah since Smiths’ and Fresh Market are national chains. If you see a copy in your local grocery store, please let me know.

And here’s to the day when these books show up in Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, and Costco as well.

Curse of a Dark God Status

A lot of people have been asking about the release date for CURSE. The short answer is that we don’t have a date yet. I will be writing a long entry about it next Monday or Tuesday. Just know that I’m working my keister off to deliver more great entertainment to you.

    Suspense Series Status

I’m working on the post on structure. It’s about half way done. I hope to publish it over the Thanksgiving weekend.

    You JB blog readers

I get a few thousand folks coming to this site each month. Most leave very little trace. But there’s nothing like meeting someone new who mentions they found a blog useful or entertaining. I had a great time at the Dragons & Fairy Tales book signing and at the dinner afterwards with the other authors. One gal who came by mentioned she enjoyed the recent post on cauliflower, even though she hasn’t read SERVANT yet. That made the whole evening. Of all the posts . . . Anyway, I’m so glad to hear from my readers. Even if it’s the veggie lovers 🙂
